DxR Development Group's roots are in education... specifically, medical education. In 1990, Southern Illinois University School of Medicine Professors Hurley Myers, PhD and Kevin Dorsey, MD, PhD, collaborated with software engineer Eldon Benz to produce a computer simulation program that allowed medical students to conduct a clinical investigation using a virtual patient. The program recorded the students' decisions, allowing faculty to review how the student reasoned through the patient problem. From this effort, Diagnostic Reasoning, the precursor to what is now known as DxR Clinician, was born. Clinician has since been translated into Japanese, Chinese, and Spanish and is used in at least a dozen countries.
After incorporating as a private company in 1992, DxR Development expanded within the healthcare education field and beyond, developing training and testing tools for a variety of clients and markets worldwide. DxR Development partnered with Novartis Pharmaceuticals to produce a number of software programs, including the Interactive Atlas of Human Anatomy, which was later translated into several languages. DxR Development's partnerships with a number public and private entities also opened the door to expand its problem-solving patient simulations programs to address the needs of those educating future nurses and physical therapists. In 2001, one of DxR's test-delivery clients, The Chauncey Group, International (now Prometric), purchased a share of the company and retains partial ownership. With growing expertise in the field of performance-based testing, DxR Development created an online test engine for the National League for Nursing. DxR developed and now markets its own online test engine, DxExam, which can be used for developing and delivering tests for educational and business applications.
The constant in DxR Development Group's past, present, and future is a willingness to embrace new challenges and explore a broad range of new opportunities. Our future includes evolution and refinement of our current product line, increasing demand for online testing and Web services, and a greater emphasis on custom software development for clients in many different fields and disciplines. Wherever opportunity takes us, we will approach each new challenge with the enthusiasm, creativity, and commitment to excellence on which we were founded.
