Reenabling QuickTime's mp3 Player in Windows

If QuickTime's ability to play .mp3's has been disabled in Windows, the following directions will help you restore it.

Windows Vista

  1. Goto: Start menu -> Control Panel -> Default Programs
  2. Click Set your default programs.
  3. Select Quicktime.
  4. Click Set this program as default.

Windows XP

  1. Goto: Start menu -> Control Panel -> Quicktime
  2. Click Files Types tab.
  3. Click checkbox for MP3
QuickTime has now been reenabled to play mp3s. Click OK to close the window. You may also close any other windows opened if desired.
