features designed to enhance students' understanding of the nursing process.
Students will have the opportunity to:
|
Features for Instructors
DxR Nursing allows the instructors to use the pre-authored cases "as is"
or to modify the case author's evaluation criteria to meet specific
curriculum standards.
Instructor tools include:
|
conduct a client Assessment
perform a virtual Physical Exam of the client
select Nursing Diagnoses
create Care Plans for the client
conduct Outcomes Evaluations on the client and...
answer Content Questions related to the client case |
the Directory Utility, where instructors create their own unique case lists
the Management Utility, where instructors control access to the cases and case sections, and...
the Student Activity Record Utility, where instructors can review each student entry and selection in a DxR Nursing case, and then evaluate student performance based on the case standards |

Assessment
Users can review all the information contained in a virtual client
chart. Our extensive database includes information on the
client's present illness and medical history, the results of lab tests
performed on the client, and physician's orders, and medical
management information. The user then organizes pertinent
client data into the framework categories displayed on to the right of
the chart. |

Virtual Physical Exam
Users select an exam tool and then select a body view to conduct
a physical exam on a specific part of the client's body. Exam
results can appear as text, as graphics, or as sounds. Students
may be asked to interpret results or may have the chance to
review a professional consultant's report. |

Nursing Diagnosis
Users can review the client assessment and physical exam data
associated with the framework categories, and then select nursing
diagnoses from the latest NANDA Nursing Diagnosis database.
Users must also specify the client data that supports or confirms
the selected diagnoses, enter an etiology for each nursing
diagnosis, and identify the most critical client issues by
prioritizing their diagnoses.

Care Planning / Implementation
Users create client-centered care plans for each nursing diagnosis
approved by the case author and then select nursing management
activities to bring about the desired client outcomes. Students can
print or e-mail care plans to the instructor from within the
program. Users may also be asked to enter rationales to justify
their nursing management decisions.

| |
Outcomes Evaluation
Student nurses evaluate the client's progress toward achieving the
desired outcomes after a period of virtual time. Progress data
may come from progress reports, flow sheets, and other
assessment forms. Users can also gather progress data by
listening to an audio interaction between a nurse and a client.
Users link any pertinent new data to the desired outcomes,
evaluate the efficacy of nursing management decisions, and
modify their care plans based on the documented progress
information. |

Content Questions
Students can answer content-related questions that accompany
each DxR Nursing case. Questions come in either multiple
choice or true-false format and can assist in preparation for the
NCLEX licensure exam. Using the DxR Nursing Management
Utility, instructors can modify the questions to suit the educational
needs of their students. |

Directory Utility
Instructors select the pre-authored case studies they want
students to access based on case content and the skill levels of
their students. Cases are installed into the instructor's unique
directory for access only by authorized users. Instructors also
determine the parts of the case studies to which students have access. |

Management Utility
Used in conjunction with the Directory Utility, the Management
Utility allows the instructor to tailor student access for each case
study to meet specific teaching objectives. Instructors can manage
student accounts, supplement case information with customized
web-based learning resources, and edit content questions that
appear at the end of each case. |

Student Activity Record Utility
Each student entry and selection in a DxR Nursing case can be recorded
and imported into the SAR Utility for instructor review and evaluation.
Instructors can view detailed records of students' encounters with the
virtual client. The Student Activity Record screen provides the instructor
with a "big picture" view comparing individual and group performance in
demonstrating key clinical reasoning skills. Instructors may also set or
alter evaluation criteria using the Student Activity Record Utility. |
