DxR Nursing - Overview
Critical thinking, problem-solving case studies for undergraduate nursing education.
DxR Nursing Web-based client simulation software challenges undergraduate nursing students to demonstrate their critical-thinking skills as they work through the nursing process virtually.
Using our computerized client "chart," a virtual physical exam, the complete database of NANDA-I Nursing Diagnoses, and the optional NIC/NOC Classification system, nursing students assess, diagnose, plan care for, and evaluate the progress of simulated clients.
Student decisions are recorded for evaluation and analysis by the instructor in our powerful grading tool, the Student Activity Record Utility.
Instructors may assign cases as a make-up assignment for missed clinicals!
Our collection of 15 case studies includes pediatric, geriatric, palliative care, OB cases, and our newest addition....a stroke/Alzheimer's case!

DxR Nursing - Features for Faculty
Instructors can use the DxR Nursing case studies as prepared by expert nurse educators OR faculty can use the instructor tools to customize case presentation and to set scoring standards for their classes.
The Management Utility allows instructors to:
- allow students access to a full case study or limit students' access to only those sections of the program appropriate for your specific educational objectives
- link web-based learning resources to supplement case information
- associate content-related questions with a given case (particularly useful for helping students prepare for NCLEX)
The Student Activity Record Utility -- the faculty's grading report tool -- allows instructors to:
- evaluate critical thinking skills by reviewing detailed records of students' encounters with each virtual client
- compare student selections with the criteria set by the case author or modified by the instructor
- review overall case performance scores and scores for each major section and subsection
- compare individual student performance scores with group performance scores and
- modify evaluation criteria based on the instructional goals and the educational level of the student.
DxR Nursing - Features for Students
Using a computerized client "chart," a virtual physical exam, NANDA nursing diagnoses and the NIC/NOC Classification system, undergraduate nursing students work through the key steps of the nursing process as they:

- simulate physical exams with over 425 possible exam selections including auscultation of heart and lung sounds
- review professionally interpreted labs, X-rays, EKGs, and other ancillary tests, and cluster important findings

- compile a list of NANDA nursing diagnoses and enter etiologies
- create client-centered care plans by selecting nursing interventions and providing a rationale

Electronic Chart
Students interact with an electronic chart to identify and then link pertinent client data to framework categories.
Virtual Physical Exam
Students apply physical exam "tools" to the patient's picture to conduct a virtual physical exam and gather data needed to select nursing diagnoses.
Nursing Diagnosis
Students use the data collected from the chart and the physical exam to develop a list of the client problems, by selecting from the complete database of NANDA-I nursing diagnoses.
Care Planning
Students develop a care plan by reviewing the desired client outcomes and then selecting nursing interventions that would help the client achieve those outcomes.
Progress
After a period of "virtual time" students review updated client data, such as progress reports, vital signs flow sheets, and a recorded nurse/client conversation, to assess whether the client has shown progress toward the desired outcomes.
Student Activity Record Utility (SARU)
Records of the students' decisions in a DxR Nursing case study can be imported into the SARU, to give instructors a clear picture of student performance in key areas of the case and the key steps in the nursing process.

"DxR Nursing allows us to objectively assess essential nursing skills upon program exit (i.e. capstone) since the client experience for each student is consistent. The program also allows us to evaluate progression from our LPN to RN levels by turning on or off certain features of the program."
